Summer task

Post production

For my As coursework I produced a horror film trailer which I filmed and then edited using a Mac computer I found the software easy to use and also felt confident when editing, as it was simple to use and effective. In contrast, for the summer task to film and edit our own remake of Britney Spears, Hit me baby one more time my group and I used Adobe Premiere Pro.

I found Adobe Premiere Pro editing software quite complicated at first and took me a while to get to grips with using it. Compared to the Mac though I found the capturing of the clips easier as you record the clip wanted, so this meant you could delete unwanted time even before the editing stage and rename the clip, which meant the editing would be less time consuming. Once I was confident using the software I learnt many of the basic editing skills which has helped and prepared me for when it comes to editing my own music video in A2.

I now know how to unlink unwanted sounds off the video clips and import MP3 tracks to the video. I also found using the razor tool on Adobe Premiere Pro very useful for cutting certain parts of the clip and deleting the unwanted sections and still the clip ran smoothly, which is a quicker and more of a professional way of editing the clips rather than compressing the clip which is the basic way to cut clips. The software is quite complex to use especially when doing more advanced editing such as; zooming in and out and increasing/ decreasing the speed of the clip which I had to learn as these editing techniques were needed for the remake of the Britney Spears video.

Over all I am happy with our group remake, as I think the editing process went well as we were able to create a similar video to the official Britney Spears music video. The timing is exactly the same as the original video, so the lip sync and dancing is in time and matches to the music. If I could improve anything it would be the camera angles, they were similar but not exact and this is obvious when comparing the two video's such as the first shot of the feet. I did not film the clips but I could of advised the the camera man of my concerns which I did do when not in the shot but when I was an extra I wasunable to.

In pairs we took turns editing the video, I captured the clips and named them then the next groups edited. We finished a head of schedule but our video was not finished to a high standard so this meant me and Alex deleted all of it apart from the beginning as the timing of the clips were out of sync to the official video and clips were missed out due to over running. However now it is corrected I am happy with the music video we have produced and I feel I have become more confident in using this software to be able to develop my own music video in the A2 coursework next year.

I think for further preparation for our attempt at our own music video's in A2 I would like to recreate or produce my own a full length music video so that I can develop my editing skills and also gain more knowledge and familiarise myself with the software which would be a great deal of help for preparation of A2 coursework. Finally I would gain more awareness of the amount of work needed for a full length music video rather than just the first 30 seconds which we did.
